How to use What Is My User Agent

  1. 1Open the page — your own user agent is shown and decoded automatically.
  2. 2Read the browser, version, operating system, device type, model and rendering engine.
  3. 3To analyse another user agent, for example from a server log, paste it into the box.
  4. 4Copy the user agent if a support team or developer asks for it.

Check your browser's user agent

Support teams, developers and website forms sometimes ask "which browser and version are you using?" This page answers instantly. It shows your user agent string — the identification your browser sends to every website — and decodes it into plain language: browser and version, operating system, whether you're on a desktop, phone or tablet, the device model if it's known and the rendering engine. You can also paste any user agent, for example from a server log or analytics report, to see what it means.

Frequently asked questions

What is a user agent?
A user agent string is a line of text your browser sends with every request to a website. It names the browser, its version, the operating system and sometimes the device, so sites can deliver compatible pages and gather statistics.
Why does my user agent mention Mozilla, Safari and Chrome at the same time?
For historical compatibility. Websites once served better pages only to certain browsers, so newer browsers copied parts of older browsers' strings. Almost every browser now starts with "Mozilla/5.0", and Chrome-based browsers also mention Safari and AppleWebKit.
Why is my operating system version not exact?
To protect privacy, modern browsers freeze or reduce some details. Chrome reports Windows 10 as "Windows NT 10.0" even on Windows 11, and macOS versions are often reported as 10_15_7. The parser shows what the string says, which may be less precise than your real version.
Can a user agent be faked?
Yes. Browsers, extensions and scripts can send any user agent, and developer tools let you change it to test sites. A user agent is a hint, not proof of the real device.
Is any of this information sent to your server?
No. Your user agent and device details are read and decoded in your browser and not stored or logged by this tool.
