Calculate your work hours

Whether you're filling in a timesheet, checking a payslip, invoicing a client or tracking volunteer time, adding up clock times by hand is surprisingly error-prone — minutes don't add up in tens, breaks need subtracting and night shifts cross midnight. This hours calculator does it for you: enter start and end times and breaks for each day, and get the total in hours and minutes and in decimal hours, plus an optional pay estimate.

Features

  • Any number of shifts or days — add and remove rows freely.
  • Unpaid breaks subtracted per row.
  • Overnight shifts that end after midnight are handled automatically.
  • Two total formats: hours:minutes and decimal hours.
  • Pay estimate from your hourly rate.
  • Private: nothing is uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked?
Subtract the start time from the end time, then subtract unpaid breaks. From 09:00 to 17:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes; minus a 30-minute break gives 8 hours. Five such days add up to 40 hours.
How do overnight shifts work?
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the shift is treated as ending the next day. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 counts as 8 hours.
What are decimal hours?
Payroll systems often need hours as a decimal number rather than hours and minutes. Divide the minutes by 60 — 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours, and 30 minutes is 0.5 hours. Both formats are shown.
How is pay estimated?
Total decimal hours are multiplied by your hourly rate. This is gross pay before tax and doesn't include overtime premiums, which depend on local laws and your contract.
Is my data saved?
No. The calculator runs in your browser and doesn't store or send your times anywhere. Copy the totals before closing the page.
