A one-hour timer for longer sessions

Some things take a full hour: an exam paper, a lesson, a workout class, a focused work block, a roast in the oven. This 1 hour timer opens already set to 60 minutes, so starting it takes one click. The remaining time is shown in big digits, on a progress bar and in the browser tab, and an alarm sounds as soon as the hour is over.

Common uses for a 60-minute countdown

  • Exams and mock tests — many test papers are exactly one hour. Show the countdown in full screen so candidates can manage their time.
  • Lessons and workshops — keep a class or training session within its slot and leave time for questions.
  • Focused work — block an hour for one important task; the alarm tells you when to stop and take a break.
  • Cooking — slow-cooked dishes, bread proofing, roasting and many stews need about an hour.
  • Exercise classes — a one-hour run, gym session, yoga class or bike ride.
  • Parking and appointments — a reminder before a parking ticket expires or before you need to leave.
  • Charging and downloads — check back after an hour without staring at the screen.
  • Screen-time limits — one hour of gaming or streaming, clearly visible to everyone.

Tips for using a long timer

Keep the device awake. A countdown can't run while a computer or phone is asleep. Adjust your power settings or keep the screen on during long sessions.

Use the tab title. You can work in other tabs and still see the remaining time at the top of your browser.

Take breaks within the hour. For mentally demanding work, short pauses help. Press Pause when you step away and Resume when you are back, or split the hour into two 30 Minute Timer sessions.

Silence if needed. Untick Alarm sound for exam rooms or libraries — the screen still flashes Time's up! at the end.

Why it stays on time

The timer stores the moment the hour should end and checks it against your device clock several times per second. Even when browsers slow down background tabs to save battery, the countdown remains correct, and if the device was asleep it catches up immediately on waking. The alarm tone is generated by the browser, so no files need to load and it works offline.

Other durations

For shorter sessions, try the 15 Minute Timer or 30 Minute Timer. The Countdown Timer sets any time up to 99 hours, and the Alarm Clock rings at a specific time of day instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set a one hour timer?
Press Start — the page opens with 1 hour already entered. It counts down from 1:00:00 to zero and then plays an alarm.
Will it stay accurate for a whole hour?
Yes. The countdown is calculated from the exact end time using your device clock, so it doesn't drift, even in a background tab or when your computer is busy.
What happens if my computer goes to sleep?
The countdown can't run while the device is asleep. When it wakes, the timer catches up with the real time and, if the hour has passed, shows Time's up!. Keep the device awake if you need the alarm at the exact moment.
Can I set 1 hour 30 minutes or 2 hours?
Yes. Edit the hours and minutes fields before starting — for example 1 hour and 30 minutes. You can set up to 99 hours.
Can I use it as an exam timer?
Yes. Press Full screen to show a large countdown on a projector or screen. Untick Alarm sound if you'd rather end silently.
