Open ZIP files without installing software
ZIP is the most common way to bundle and compress files, but you don't always have an unzip program at hand — on a Chromebook, a work computer with locked-down software, a borrowed laptop or a phone. This online unzip tool opens ZIP archives directly in your browser, shows everything inside and lets you download just the files you need. Because the archive is processed on your device, nothing is uploaded and your files stay private.
Features
- Opens standard ZIP archives created by Windows, macOS, Linux and most apps.
- Browse the contents with folder paths and file sizes.
- Download individual files — no need to extract everything.
- Search within large archives to find a file quickly.
- Skips macOS clutter such as
__MACOSXfolders and._resource files. - Private and fast — no uploads, no waiting for a server.
- Works everywhere: Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, iPhone, iPad and Android.
When this is useful
- Email attachments sent as ZIP files when you only need one document.
- Downloaded assets such as fonts, icons, templates and themes.
- Photo exports from cloud services that arrive as ZIP files.
- Checking what's inside an archive before extracting it all on your computer.
- Mobile devices where built-in ZIP support is limited or awkward.
About ZIP compression
A ZIP file stores one or more files, usually compressed with the Deflate algorithm. Text, documents, spreadsheets and code compress very well — often to a fraction of their original size. Photos, videos and music are already compressed, so zipping them saves little space but still bundles many files into one convenient download.
Safety tips
Archives from unknown sources can contain malware. Extracting a file in the browser doesn't run it, but be careful with programs (.exe, .msi, .app, .apk), scripts and Office documents with macros after you download them. Scan unexpected attachments with antivirus software before opening them.
