How to use Image Converter

  1. 1Choose the output format — JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF (if your browser supports it).
  2. 2For JPG, WebP and AVIF, set the Quality. 85–90 is a good balance of size and sharpness.
  3. 3Drop your images onto the page or click Choose files. You can add many at once.
  4. 4Download each converted image, or click Download all (ZIP). Changed a setting? Click Convert to redo the batch.

Convert images to any common format

Different apps and websites expect different image formats: a form wants JPG, a design tool needs PNG, your website should serve WebP. This image converter changes the format of one image or hundreds at once, directly in your browser. Pick the output format, adjust quality, drop in your files and download the results individually or as a ZIP archive. Nothing is uploaded, so even private photos stay on your device.

Supported formats

Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, BMP, ICO, SVG and AVIF (where the browser supports it).

Output: JPG, PNG, WebP and — in browsers that can encode it — AVIF.

Features

  • Batch conversion with a progress list and size comparison for every file.
  • Quality control for lossy formats, from small files to near-lossless.
  • Background colour for transparent images converted to JPG.
  • Automatic orientation: photos are rotated according to their EXIF orientation tag.
  • ZIP download of all converted files in one click.
  • No limits, no watermark, no sign-up.

Choosing the right format

Format Best for Transparency Compression
JPG Photos, universal compatibility No Lossy
PNG Screenshots, logos, text, editing Yes Lossless
WebP Websites, photos and graphics Yes Lossy or lossless
AVIF Websites needing the smallest files Yes Lossy, very efficient

A practical rule: keep originals in their best quality, publish photos on the web as WebP or AVIF with a JPG fallback, and use PNG only when you need perfect sharp edges or lossless editing.

Tips

  • Converting to PNG doesn't improve quality. A JPG converted to PNG keeps its compression artefacts and just gets bigger.
  • Avoid repeated JPG re-saving. Each lossy save loses a little detail; convert from the original whenever possible.
  • Need smaller files rather than a different format? Use Compress Image. To change dimensions, use Resize Image.

Specific conversions have their own pages: HEIC to JPG, PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG and WebP to PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert from?
Any format your browser can open — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, ICO, SVG and AVIF in modern browsers — plus HEIC/HEIF photos from iPhones, which are decoded by a built-in converter.
Which output format should I choose?
JPG for photos that must open everywhere. PNG for screenshots, logos and images that need sharp edges or transparency. WebP for websites — usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality, with transparency support. AVIF compresses even better but takes longer to encode and is not supported by every app yet.
Why is AVIF missing from the options?
Creating AVIF files depends on your browser. Recent Chrome and Edge versions can encode AVIF; other browsers may only be able to open AVIF, not create it. In that case the option is hidden.
What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion uses your browser's own image decoder and canvas encoder. Files never leave your device, which also makes conversion fast — there is nothing to upload or download.
Is metadata like EXIF kept?
No. Re-encoding creates a new image without EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location. The image is automatically rotated according to its orientation tag first, so it still displays the right way up.
