  3. 3Download each converted image, or all of them as a ZIP.

Convert WebP to PNG or JPG

WebP is now the most common image format on the web because it makes pages load faster. But when you save an image to use elsewhere — in a document, a presentation, an older editor or an upload form — a .webp file can be a problem. This converter turns WebP images into universally supported PNG or JPG files in your browser, one at a time or in bulk.

PNG or JPG?

PNG is lossless and supports transparency. It is the safe choice for logos, stickers, icons, screenshots and graphics with text. Files are larger, especially for photos.

JPG is ideal for photographs. Files are much smaller, but transparency is replaced with a solid background colour (white by default) and compression is lossy.

Why WebP files are smaller

WebP uses more modern compression techniques than JPG and PNG, typically saving 25–35% compared with JPG at similar quality, and supports both lossy and lossless modes with transparency. Converting to PNG or JPG gives up some of that efficiency in exchange for compatibility, so expect the converted files to be larger.

Common situations

  • Images saved from online shops, news sites or social media that won't open in your photo editor.
  • Product photos supplied as WebP that a marketplace or print shop won't accept.
  • Graphics for slides or documents in office software that doesn't support WebP.

To convert images in any other direction — including to WebP — use the Image Converter. To make the converted files smaller, try Compress Image.

Frequently asked questions

What is a WebP file?
WebP is an image format developed by Google for the web. It produces smaller files than JPG and PNG, so many websites serve images as WebP. When you save an image from a website, you often get a .webp file.
Why can't I open WebP images in some programs?
Modern browsers and operating systems support WebP, but some older image editors, office suites, printing services and upload forms still don't. Converting to PNG or JPG makes the image compatible everywhere.
Should I choose PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with transparency — it is lossless and keeps transparent areas. Choose JPG for photos when you want a smaller file and don't need transparency.
Are animated WebP images supported?
Only the first frame is converted, because PNG and JPG are still-image formats.
Is my data private?
Yes. Images are converted in your browser and never uploaded.
