Convert PNG to JPG in your browser

PNG is a great format for graphics, but a poor choice for photos: a single smartphone photo saved as PNG can easily reach 10–20 MB. Converting it to JPG typically shrinks it to 1–3 MB with no visible difference. This PNG to JPG converter handles one image or a whole folder at once, lets you set the JPG quality and choose what colour should replace transparent areas. Everything happens locally on your device.

How it works

Your browser decodes each PNG, draws it onto a canvas over the background colour you choose, and encodes the result as a JPG at the selected quality. Because no upload is needed, conversion starts immediately and your files stay private.

When to convert PNG to JPG

  • Photos exported as PNG by screenshot tools, phones or editing apps.
  • Upload limits on websites, job portals or government forms that only accept JPG or have a small maximum size.
  • Email attachments that are too large to send.
  • Printing services and older software that expect JPG.

When to keep PNG

Keep PNG — or choose WebP — for images that need transparency (logos, icons, stickers), and for screenshots with small text or user interfaces, where JPG compression can create faint halos around sharp edges.

Choosing the JPG quality

Quality Typical use
90–95 High-quality photos, printing
80–89 Websites, social media, email
60–79 Thumbnails and previews where size matters most

If you need an even smaller file, follow up with Compress Image. To go the other way, use JPG to PNG, or convert to other formats with the Image Converter.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert PNG to JPG?
Photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than necessary, because PNG compresses losslessly. JPG uses lossy compression designed for photographs, so the same image is usually 5–10 times smaller — easier to email, upload and store.
What happens to the transparent background?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a solid colour. White is the default; you can choose any colour, such as your website's background. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP with the Image Converter instead.
Will I lose quality?
JPG compression is lossy, but at the default quality of 90 differences are hard to see in photos. Images with sharp text, thin lines or flat colours (screenshots, logos, diagrams) may show slight blurring around edges — keep those as PNG if crispness matters.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
No fixed limit. Files are processed one after another on your own device, so very large batches simply take a little longer.
Are my PNG files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never sent to a server.
