Roll dice online

Lost the dice from your board game? Playing a tabletop RPG over video chat? This dice roller gives you fair virtual dice in a tap: any number from 1 to 20, all the standard polyhedral types from d4 to d100, and an optional modifier. Each die is shown individually with the total, and your last 50 rolls are kept in the history.

Features

  • 1 to 20 dice per roll.
  • All common dice types: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100.
  • Modifiers added to the total, shown in standard notation such as 3d8+2.
  • Classic pip faces for six-sided dice, numbers for the others.
  • Totals and breakdowns, so you can see every die that was rolled.
  • Roll history of the last 50 rolls.
  • Truly fair results from cryptographically secure randomness.

Popular uses

  • Board games such as Monopoly, backgammon, Catan, Ludo and Yahtzee.
  • Dungeons & Dragons and other RPGs — attack rolls with a d20, damage with d6, d8 or d10, percentile rolls with a d100.
  • Classroom maths — explore probability, averages and distributions.
  • Drinking and party games that need a quick roll.
  • Random decisions with more than two options.

Dice probabilities at a glance

Dice Range Average Most likely total
1d6 1–6 3.5 all equal
2d6 2–12 7 7 (16.7%)
3d6 3–18 10.5 10 and 11 (12.5% each)
1d20 1–20 10.5 all equal (5% each)

The average of a single die with n sides is (n + 1) ÷ 2. With several dice, totals near the middle become much more likely than the extremes, because there are more combinations that produce them.

Frequently asked questions

Are the dice rolls fair?
Yes. Every die uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator with rejection sampling, so each face has exactly the same probability — 1 in 6 for a d6, 1 in 20 for a d20. Physical dice can be slightly unbalanced; these can't.
What does a notation like 2d6+3 mean?
It is standard tabletop notation: the number before "d" is how many dice, the number after it is how many sides each die has, and the final number is a modifier added to the total. So 2d6+3 means roll two six-sided dice, add them up and add 3.
What is the most common total with two dice?
Seven. There are six ways to make 7 with two d6 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4 and the reverse), out of 36 combinations, so it comes up about 16.7% of the time. Totals of 2 and 12 are the rarest, at 1 in 36 each.
Can I use it for Dungeons & Dragons?
Yes. All the standard polyhedral dice are available — d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100 (percentile). Use the modifier for ability bonuses. For advantage or disadvantage, roll 2d20 and use the higher or lower die.
How many dice can I roll at once?
Up to 20 dice of the same type per roll, which covers fireball damage and most board games. Each die is shown individually along with the total.
