  2. 2Choose Words, 2-word phrases or 3-word phrases.

See which words you use most

A word frequency count reveals what a text is really about — and which words you lean on too heavily. Writers use it to spot repetition, SEO specialists to check keyword use, students and researchers to analyse speeches, books and interviews, and marketers to find recurring themes in customer reviews and survey answers. Paste any text and get a ranked list of words or phrases with their counts and share of the total.

Frequently asked questions

What is keyword density?
Keyword density is how often a word appears compared with the total number of words, shown here as a percentage. A word used 15 times in a 1,000-word article has a density of 1.5%. Writing naturally matters more for search engines today than hitting a specific density.
Which common words are excluded?
About 100 frequent English function words such as articles, pronouns, prepositions and auxiliary verbs (the, a, of, is, you, with…). Untick the option to count every word, which is also best for other languages.
Does it work for Chinese and Japanese?
Yes. Text is split into words using your browser's built-in, language-aware word segmentation, so languages written without spaces between words are counted word by word. Results are best in modern browsers.
Are numbers counted?
Words made only of digits are left out of the list, but they are included in the total word count.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser.
