Scan QR codes without an app

QR codes are everywhere — on posters, menus, tickets, invoices, product packaging, login screens and payment requests. Your phone's camera can usually read them, but what if the code is in a screenshot, an email attachment or a document on your computer? This QR code scanner reads codes from any image or from your device's camera, directly in the browser, and shows you exactly what the code contains before you do anything with it.

Features

  • Scan from images: photos, screenshots, PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC and more.
  • Paste screenshots straight from the clipboard.
  • Live camera scanning with front/back camera switching.
  • Smart results for links, Wi-Fi networks, email addresses and phone numbers.
  • Inverted codes (light on dark) are recognised too.
  • Private: images and camera frames never leave your device.

Stay safe with QR codes

Scammers sometimes place fake QR code stickers over real ones on parking meters, posters and restaurant tables, leading to look-alike payment or login pages. Before opening a link from a QR code, check the domain name carefully, be wary of shortened links, and never enter passwords or payment details on a page you reached unexpectedly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scan a QR code that's on my screen?
Take a screenshot (Windows + Shift + S on Windows, ⌘ + Shift + 4 on Mac, or the power and volume buttons on most phones), then paste it on this page with Ctrl+V or ⌘+V, or select the saved image with From image.
Why isn't my QR code recognised?
The code may be too small, blurry, cropped or low in contrast. Try a sharper photo, crop the image closer to the code, make sure the whole code including its quiet border is visible, and avoid glare. Damaged or partially covered codes may not be readable.
Is it safe to open links from QR codes?
QR codes can point to any website, including phishing pages. This tool shows you the full link before you open it — check that the domain is what you expect, especially for payment and login pages. Links are opened only when you click the button.
Can it read Wi-Fi QR codes?
Yes. Wi-Fi codes show the network name, password and security type so you can type them on a device that can't scan codes.
Are my images or camera feed uploaded?
No. Images and camera frames are analysed by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.
Why doesn't the camera start?
Your browser needs permission to use the camera and the page must be opened over HTTPS. If you denied access earlier, allow the camera in your browser's site settings and reload the page. Some desktop computers have no camera — use From image instead.
