Crop images precisely in your browser

Cropping removes distracting edges, straightens a composition and fits a picture to the shape a platform needs. This online image cropper gives you a draggable crop box with a rule-of-thirds grid, fixed aspect ratios for social media and print, and exact pixel inputs for precise work. The image never leaves your device, and you can save the result as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Features

  • Drag-and-drop crop box with corner handles and a rule-of-thirds overlay.
  • Aspect ratio presets: free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 4:5 and 9:16.
  • Pixel-precise inputs for X, Y, width and height.
  • Output as JPG, PNG or WebP at high quality.
  • Works with HEIC photos from iPhone, and automatically applies EXIF orientation.

Choosing the right crop

Profile pictures and avatars are usually displayed as circles or squares — crop to 1:1 with the face slightly above centre.

Social media posts look best at 1:1 or 4:5 in feeds, while stories, Reels and TikTok use full-screen 9:16.

Presentations, videos and thumbnails are 16:9. Leave space for titles if you plan to add text.

Prints have traditional ratios: 3:2 for 4×6 in (10×15 cm) prints, 4:3 for many compact cameras, and 5:4 for 8×10 in.

Composition tips

Use the grid lines: placing the main subject or the horizon on one of the thirds usually looks more balanced than dead centre. Leave some space in the direction a person is looking or moving. Crop tightly to remove clutter at the edges, but avoid cutting through joints like wrists or knees in portraits.

After cropping, resize the image to an exact size with Resize Image, or reduce the file size with Compress Image.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a photo to a perfect square?
Select 1:1. The largest possible square is placed in the centre of the image; drag it to the part you want to keep and resize it with the corner handles. The square shape is maintained while you resize.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping itself doesn't change the remaining pixels. The result is saved as PNG (lossless) or as high-quality JPG or WebP. Of course, a smaller crop has fewer pixels, so it may look softer when enlarged.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Enter the width and height in the number fields. If you need the final image to be a specific size, such as 1080 × 1080, crop to the right aspect ratio here and then use Resize Image to scale it exactly.
Which aspect ratio should I use?
1:1 for profile pictures and square posts, 4:5 for portrait posts on Instagram, 9:16 for stories and short videos, 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, presentations and widescreen wallpapers, 3:2 and 4:3 for classic photo prints.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The image is loaded and cropped locally in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
