A fast, private signature maker
Adding your signature to digital documents shouldn't require printing, signing, and scanning pages back into your computer. This signature maker lets you create a clean, reusable digital signature in seconds. You can either draw directly on your screen or upload a photo of a signature you wrote on paper.
Because signatures are sensitive biometric data, this tool is designed for absolute privacy. All image processing and drawing happens entirely on your device. Whether you are signing a non-disclosure agreement, a freelance contract, or a lease, your signature is never uploaded, saved, or transmitted to any server.
Two ways to create your signature
Depending on your device and preference, you can create your signature using two entirely different methods. Both methods output a high-quality, transparent signature PNG that is automatically cropped to fit your handwriting perfectly.
Draw signature online
If you have a touch screen, a drawing tablet, or a steady hand with a mouse, the Draw mode is the fastest way to create a signature.
- Smooth curves: The drawing engine uses quadratic curves to connect your movements, ensuring your signature looks fluid and natural, not jagged or robotic.
- Pressure sensitivity: If you use a stylus (like an Apple Pencil or a Wacom pen), the tool detects pointer pressure. Pressing harder creates a thicker line, mimicking the behavior of a real fountain or ballpoint pen.
- High resolution: The canvas scales automatically to your device's pixel ratio, meaning your signature will be captured in crisp, high definition even on Retina displays.
- Mistake friendly: Use the Undo button to remove your last stroke, or Clear to start over completely.
Extract a signature from photo
If you prefer the look of your real handwriting on paper, the From Photo mode acts as a powerful electronic signature generator.
- Smart extraction: Instead of just erasing white pixels, the tool measures the luminance of every pixel in your photo. You control the "Threshold" slider to tell the tool exactly where the ink ends and the paper begins.
- Anti-aliased edges: To prevent your signature from looking pixelated, the tool applies a 24-level transparency gradient around the threshold point. This blends the edges of the ink smoothly into the background.
- Automatic recoloring: It doesn't matter what color pen you used on the paper. The tool extracts the shape of the ink and instantly recolors it to your chosen digital ink color (black, blue, teal, or red).
Where to use your electronic signature
Once you download your transparent PNG, you can use it across almost any digital platform or document format. Because the background is fully transparent, the signature will seamlessly overlay text, lines, and document backgrounds.
PDF Contracts and Forms: The most common use for a digital signature is signing PDFs. You can open your document in a tool like Sign PDF, place your downloaded signature image on the signature line, and save the finalized document.
Word Documents and Emails: You can drag and drop the PNG directly into Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Apple Pages. It can also be added to your email client's settings to serve as a personalized sign-off at the bottom of your messages.
Watermarking: Photographers and digital artists often use their signature as a watermark to protect their work. You can use the Add Text to Image tool to overlay your transparent signature onto your photos before publishing them online.
Tips for the best results
If you are drawing your signature, try adjusting the Thickness slider before you start. A thicker line often looks better on standard documents, while a thinner line is ideal if you need to fit your signature into a very small box.
If you are extracting a signature from a photo, follow these steps for a flawless result:
- Use plain, unlined paper: Grid lines or ruled lines will be picked up by the extractor if they intersect with your signature. Always sign on a blank sheet of white paper.
- Write thickly: A medium or broad-tipped pen works much better than a fine-liner or a pencil. The darker and thicker the ink, the easier it is for the tool to separate it from the paper.
- Ensure even lighting: Take the photo in a well-lit room or near a window. Avoid casting a harsh shadow over the paper with your phone, as uneven lighting makes it harder to find a single threshold that removes all the paper.
- Adjust the threshold carefully: Move the slider left or right until the paper background completely vanishes, but stop before your signature starts to look thin or broken.
