How to use Salary Calculator

  1. 1Enter an amount and choose the period it's paid for — per hour, day, week, month or year.
  2. 2Adjust hours per week, days per week and weeks per year to match your job.
  3. 3Read the equivalent pay for every period in the table.
  4. 4Compare job offers or check a payslip using the same assumptions.

Convert hourly, monthly and annual pay

Job ads, contracts and payslips express pay in different ways — an hourly rate here, a monthly salary there, an annual package somewhere else. To compare offers, plan a budget or price your freelance work, you need them on the same basis. This salary calculator converts any amount into every common pay period at once, using the hours and weeks you actually work.

Features

  • Seven pay periods: hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly and annual.
  • Your own working pattern: hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year.
  • All periods at once in one table.
  • Any currency — just enter the numbers.
  • Instant results, nothing stored.

Comparing job offers

When comparing a salaried job with an hourly or freelance one, look beyond the headline number. Paid vacation and holidays, overtime, health insurance, pension contributions, bonuses and commuting time all change the real value of an offer. For freelance work, remember that you'll pay for your own equipment, insurance and unpaid time between projects — many freelancers charge 1.5 to 2 times the equivalent employee hourly rate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work per week and by the weeks you are paid per year. At 40 hours a week and 52 weeks: $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year. A quick rule of thumb is to double the hourly rate and add three zeros.
How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the salary by the hours worked per year. $60,000 ÷ 2,080 hours (40 × 52) = $28.85 per hour.
Should I use 52 weeks or fewer?
Use 52 if you're paid for holidays and vacation, as most salaried employees are. If you're paid only for the hours you actually work — like many hourly workers and freelancers — use the number of weeks you really work, for example 48 to allow for four weeks off.
What's the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly?
Biweekly pay comes every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly pay comes twice a month, usually on the 15th and the last day, which is 24 paychecks a year. Each semi-monthly check is slightly larger.
Are taxes included?
No. All figures are gross pay before income tax, social security, pension and other deductions. Net take-home pay depends on your country, tax situation and benefits.
