Add a watermark to your PDF
A watermark tells readers at a glance what a document is and where it came from. Mark drafts so they aren't mistaken for final versions, label confidential files before sharing them, stamp sample or preview copies, or put your logo on portfolios, price lists and certificates. This tool adds a text or image watermark to every page — or just the pages you choose — with full control over size, transparency, angle and layout, and shows a live preview before you download.
Features
- Text watermarks in any language, with any color.
- Image watermarks from PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG — transparent logos look best.
- Size and opacity sliders with a live preview of the first page.
- Rotation of 0°, 45°, 90° or −45°.
- Centered or tiled layouts; tiling covers the whole page in a diagonal pattern that is harder to crop out.
- Page selection such as
1-3, 10. - Private: processed in your browser, never uploaded.
Common watermark text
| Purpose | Watermark |
|---|---|
| Work in progress | DRAFT |
| Restricted documents | CONFIDENTIAL / INTERNAL USE ONLY |
| Samples and previews | SAMPLE / PREVIEW |
| Copies of IDs or certificates | COPY — for [purpose] only |
| Paid content | Licensed to [name] |
| Branding | Your company or website name |
Adding a specific purpose to copies of identity documents ("Copy for rental application only") makes it harder for them to be reused for something else.
Tips
- Tiled watermarks are the best choice when you want to discourage cropping or screenshots.
- Keep it readable: an opacity of 20–30% and a medium size rarely get in the way of the content.
- Watermark last. Merge, reorder and number pages first with Merge PDF, Organize PDF and Add Page Numbers to PDF.
- Large result? Image watermarks on many pages are stored only once, so files stay small; if your PDF is large anyway, try Compress PDF.
