How to use Compress Video

  1. 1Choose a video file — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV.
  2. 2Pick a quality level and a maximum resolution (720p is a good default for sharing).
  3. 3Click Compress video and wait for the progress bar.
  4. 4Compare the size, preview the result and click Download.

Make your videos smaller

Modern phones record beautiful but huge videos — a single minute of 4K can exceed 300 MB. That's too big for email, slow to upload and often over the limit of messaging apps. This video compressor reduces the file size by lowering the bitrate and, if you like, the resolution, while keeping the video clear and watchable. It runs entirely in your browser, so your videos stay private.

Features

  • Three quality levels: smallest, balanced and high quality.
  • Resolution limits: 1080p, 720p or 480p (never upscaled).
  • MP4 output compatible with every device and platform.
  • Size comparison before and after.
  • No upload, no watermark, no sign-up.

Common size limits

Where Limit
Email attachments (most providers) 20–25 MB
WhatsApp video 2 GB (but large files are recompressed)
Discord (free) 10 MB
Telegram 2 GB

Tips for the smallest files

  • Trim first: the shortest video is the smallest — use Trim Video.
  • Lower the resolution: 720p looks great on phones and is a fraction of 4K's size.
  • Remove the sound if you don't need it with Mute Video.
  • Use a GIF only for very short loops — for anything longer, MP4 is far smaller. See Video to GIF.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my video be?
It depends on the original. Phone videos recorded in 4K or 1080p often shrink by 70–90% when reduced to 720p at medium quality. Videos that are already compressed shrink less.
Which settings should I use?
For messaging apps and email, choose 720p and medium quality. For social media, 1080p and high quality. For the smallest possible file, 480p and low quality — fine for screen recordings and talking-head videos.
What format is the compressed video?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays everywhere. If your browser can't encode H.264, a WebM file is created instead.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Compression runs on your device using your browser's built-in video encoder (WebCodecs). Your video never leaves your computer or phone.
Why is compression slow?
Video encoding is demanding. Speed depends on your device, the length and the resolution — a few minutes of 1080p video may take as long as the video itself on older phones. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
