Make GIFs from videos

GIFs are perfect for reactions, quick product demos, tutorials, bug reports and memes: they autoplay, loop and work almost everywhere, from chat apps to documentation. This converter turns any part of a video into an animated GIF. Pick the moment, choose how smooth and how large it should be, and download the result — all in your browser.

Features

  • Select any section of the video, up to 20 seconds.
  • Frame rate: 5, 10 or 15 fps.
  • Width: 240 to 640 pixels, height scaled automatically.
  • Optimized palette per frame for better colors.
  • Live preview of the finished GIF.
  • No upload and no watermark.

Estimated GIF sizes

Width Frame rate 3 seconds 6 seconds
320 px 10 fps ~0.5–1.5 MB ~1–3 MB
480 px 10 fps ~1–3 MB ~2–6 MB
640 px 15 fps ~3–8 MB ~6–16 MB

Real sizes depend on how much the picture changes; screen recordings with static backgrounds compress much better than camera footage.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my GIF so large?
GIF is an old format that stores every frame as a full image with up to 256 colors. File size grows with the length, width and frame rate. Keep clips short (2–6 seconds), use 320–480 px width and 10 fps for sharing.
What frame rate should I use?
10 fps is smooth enough for most reactions and demos. Use 15 fps for fast motion and 5 fps for slideshows or screen recordings with little movement.
Why do colors look grainy?
Each GIF frame can only have 256 colors, so smooth gradients and video footage get banding. Each frame gets its own optimized palette to keep colors as accurate as possible. For full-color animations, a short MP4 is usually smaller and better looking.
Does the GIF have sound?
No, GIF doesn't support audio.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Frames are decoded and the GIF is created in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.
